About the game

Conquests of Camelot is one of Sierra’s more distinctive adventure games, combining classic exploration and puzzle design with a presentation that was closely tied to the original manual and its protection checks. That is exactly where our release comes in: we make the supported original version comfortable to play again without changing the game itself, and we aim it at players who want to keep using their original files or a legitimate copy in a clean, practical way.

Our loader bypasses the protection check of the supported version and replaces the old manual-based hurdles with a smoother in-game flow. Where available, it also lets us switch between MT-32 and AdLib audio. The loader is built for Conquests of Camelot v1.001 and is started from the game directory as LOAD.COM. Our release is based on DOSBox, and ScummVM is not supported. If you own the original game, this gives you a straightforward way to experience it with fewer interruptions and the intended structure intact.

Conquests of Camelot takes the Arthurian legend and runs it through Sierra’s familiar puzzle machine: courtly and fairy-tale on the surface, then increasingly demanding once timing and logic start to matter. That fits the early DOS era well, when an adventure was expected to do more than tell a story and also leaned on manual knowledge and a fair bit of patience. Those three tests are a neat example of how closely gameplay and protection were intertwined here. Sierra was building atmosphere, but also a little trapdoor that reads today more like a historical footnote than a clever gate.

That is exactly where the DOSGAME.AT release earns its keep: the legacy protection fix smooths out the old startup flow and removes unnecessary friction without sanding off the game’s character. If you own a legitimate copy, you get a cleaner route into an adventure best revisited for its puzzles and tone, not for a manual quiz at the edge of the action. The journey to Camelot stays closer to the memory and further from the part that always felt like bookkeeping. In other words, the loader helps an old Sierra evening feel like play again, not like a systems negotiation.
