About the game

Another World / Out Of This World is one of DOS gaming’s defining action-adventure classics: minimalist presentation, precise staging, and a flow that remains instantly recognizable today. Our release is aimed at players who want the supported original versions to start cleanly again, without fighting the old protection check or the usual DOS-era hurdles. We verify the detected game build up front and only continue when the underlying original files can be trusted.

With our loader, we can temporarily bypass the protection check in supported versions, choose one of 24 native checkpoints as a starting point, and hide the EMS memory-manager warning without disabling EMS itself. We also provide story information and the original DOS controls on demand. For certain, exactly identified modifications, we normalize the files back to the original state before launch; unverified changes are deliberately not started. This release is therefore intended for owners of the original game, or the original game files, who want a clean and practical DOS setup.

Another World works with a very uncommon trick: it tells almost everything without words and lets animation, camera work, and the bare minimum of plot do the heavy lifting. Eric Chahi’s staging is remarkably exact, and the blend of escape, timing, and compact puzzle beats makes it obvious why the DOS version stood out so sharply in its day. There’s no busy interface here, no lecture on how to feel about it — just a lean sci-fi fable that gets its force from motion and tension. Delphine later turned that into a multi-platform legend for a reason; early reviews already praised the unusual presentation and the clean, uncompromising atmosphere. The original PC release, however, was never especially friendly when the protection check or memory setup decided to get in the way.

That is exactly where the DOSGAME.AT release earns its keep: the loader identifies the supported original build, treats it carefully, and takes the sting out of the old protection check only where modern use really benefits from it. With native checkpoints, optional story and control hints, and the EMS warning quietly suppressed for the launch, the game keeps its identity while becoming much easier to start and enjoy. For owners of the original, this is the kind of release that respects the game instead of repainting it. And for a title so dependent on rhythm and pacing, removing launch friction is a very good place to begin.
