Mystical is one of those DOS games where copy protection, multiple build variants, and the old TATOU launch flow can quickly get in the way today. Our release is aimed at players who already own the original game or the supported game files and want a clean way to run it in modern DOS environments. We support both the original DOS floppy build and the DOS build distributed through Steam, and we adapt automatically to the version we detect.
Our LOAD.COM does more than launch the game: it bypasses the protection check of the supported original version, applies the matching patches for the CGA and EGA builds, and restores the temporarily modified files after exit. On top of that, we include a trainer with unlimited lives, stable energy, and unlimited spells in the EGA version. F5 also opens an expanded in-loader help section with the most important manual pages, which makes getting started and finding your way around much easier.
For DOSBox and DOSBox-X, our release also handles the compatibility issues typical of the old loader, including EXEPACK loading and handle/PSP behavior. That keeps Mystical much closer to its original form while sparing you the technical quirks of the old protection and startup system.
