About the game

Battles Of Destiny is a classic DOS strategy game by QQP / Holistic Design that remains noteworthy today for its place in the era and for its unusually stubborn protection checks. With our release, we focus on making the documented original versions easy to launch again, while keeping the game itself intact. That means the Floppy and GOG releases can be started in a cleaner, more practical way without changing the character of the original game.

Our loader bypasses the bogus copy-protection or protection check used by the supported versions and reliably detects the documented originals. For the GOG release, we place LOAD.COM and the adjusted configuration file in the installation directory; for the floppy release, LOAD.COM is enough. We also include the official update from v1.0 to v1.1 in this archive. Our release is intended for owners of the original game or the original game files, and it deliberately works with those files rather than including game assets.

If you’re hunting for instant action, this is more about tactical patience than easy rewards. The appeal lies in the cool mix of strategy, RPG seasoning, and a presentation that never pretends to be smoother than it is. Contemporary reviews and player chatter tended to praise the unusual structure, while the learning curve and the protection checks could trip things up for no good reason. That sort of friction is very much part of the era, when DOS releases often asked for more effort than modern players are used to.
