About the gameDarklands stands out as one of the more unusual role-playing games of its era, combining historical inspiration with a free-form, systems-driven structure. For our release, we prepared a universal Legacy Protection Fix that supports several German and English original versions as well as the GOG release. It is aimed at owners of the game, or of the original game files, who want a clean and reliable way to launch Darklands again today.
Our loader bypasses the copy-protection or protection check used by the supported versions and automatically detects the documented original executables. For floppy releases, LOAD.COM is placed next to DARKLAND.EXE and started directly; for the GOG release, we use the DARKLAND subdirectory layout and a modified DOSBox configuration that launches LOAD.COM for us. The chosen protection setting is stored, so everyday use stays straightforward.
