Transarctica and Arctic Baron are among Silmarils’ most distinctive DOS strategy-adventure projects: a striking mix of ice-age survival, rail transport, and resource management that is still remembered for its atmosphere and its unusual mechanics. Our release is aimed at players who want to launch the original version cleanly while having a practical solution for the old protection checks, without relying on questionable historical cracks.

Our Legacy Protection Fix automatically detects the supported original variants and bypasses the protection prompt for the matching version in a clean way. We only work with verified protection files; damaged or unknown files are rejected rather than modified. After the game has been started, the loader restores the original protected files. We also include a compact in-loader help page with the most important basics, and for verified multilingual builds a language selector is available directly from the loader. This release is intended for owners of the original game or the original game files.

Transarctica, known in the US as Arctic Baron, is the kind of Silmarils oddity that immediately carves out its own lane: part strategy, part adventure, part resource juggling, all aboard a gigantic train rolling through a frozen world. The 1993 DOS release asks for planning more than reflexes, and it rewards anyone willing to think about fuel, routes, and survival instead of just hammering away at the keyboard.
