Dunzhin: Warrior of Ras

Dunzhin: Warrior of Ras – Volume I is a DOS booter that was originally meant to start straight from floppy disk and relies on hardware-dependent routines. That makes it an interesting piece of game history, but also one that is picky about its environment: startup, display behavior, and timing do not always cooperate on modern systems. Our release turns it into something that can be launched comfortably from a hard drive or a DOSBox folder without permanently changing the original IMG.

Our loader places the supported 160 KB disk image in RAM, provides the virtual disk access the game expects, and restores working COLOR and MONOCHROME modes. We also include optional timing corrections for modern CPUs and DOSBox, plus a fix for the CPU-sensitive speech routine so the digitized speech plays at usable rates. Persistent saves are supported, and F4 opens an integrated quick guide with the story, objectives, movement, combat commands, save details, and gameplay hints. The release is intended for owners of the original files; we simply expect the matching .IMG to sit in the same folder as our loader.

That keeps the original feel intact while smoothing out the usual booter hurdles. The loader searches for a matching IMG automatically and validates it before launch, so our release works cleanly with the original material already on hand.
