About the game

Hexx: Heresy of the Wizard is one of Psygnosis’ more distinctive DOS role-playing games, combining party management with an unusual fantasy setting. Our release is aimed at players who own the original game and want a convenient way to start, manage, and adjust the DOS version today. We keep the original startup flow intact, so the familiar chain of setup and game launch continues to work as intended.

With our loader we address two practical hurdles: F1 temporarily removes the known protection paths in the supported WIZ.EXE, and F2 opens the save game editor. The editor only shows save slots that actually exist and are compatible, which makes working with the Hexx saves much clearer. From there we can edit party status, individual character values, progress, and revival options, or set the whole party to a strong maximum state. After the game exits, all executable changes are restored cleanly to their original values.

Hexx: Heresy of the Wizard comes from that brief Psygnosis era when the label was still willing to back role-playing experiments with a strong visual identity and a slightly awkward but memorable idea underneath. The party setup, the freely explored dungeons, and the offbeat fantasy angle give it a stubborn personality right away; this is not a game trying to be polite. Contemporary and retrospective coverage alike tended to notice that charm, even if the opening stretch was never especially welcoming once the protection check and old DOS baggage entered the picture. For owners of the original, a release like this is useful for exactly the right reason: it leaves the game itself alone while trimming away the friction around launch and saves.
