Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is LucasArts at a very confident point in its adventure-game run: brisk puzzles, clean pacing, and just enough Indy wit to work even without the film machinery beside it. The floppy release always had an extra bit of ritual attached, because the copy-protection dance gets in the way before the story has a chance to begin. But the game is more than a famous license; its three story paths, sharp dialogue, and well-balanced mix of exploration and problem-solving are a big part of why it earned its reputation. Anyone who spent time with PC adventures in that era can see why LucasArts was so often treated as the benchmark.
