About the game

Simon the Sorcerer is one of the best-known adventure classics from the DOS era, mixing traditional puzzle design with a strong sense of personality. The floppy release, however, comes with a hurdle that is unnecessary today: a protection check at startup. Our release is aimed at players who own the original game and want to launch the supported version again without that extra friction.

Our Legacy Protection Fix bypasses the copy-protection or protection check used by the documented original version. The loader detects the supported language editions and works with English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish copies. To use it, place LOAD.COM in the installation directory and start the game through it. That makes the floppy version usable again on real DOS or in DOSBox, while keeping the original game intact.

Simon the Sorcerer makes its intentions clear almost immediately: fantasy, but with cheek, jokes, and a very British willingness to poke fun at itself. Adventure Soft does not send out a brooding hero; it drops a boy into a fairy-tale world and lets him survive by point-and-click logic, sharp dialogue, and a parade of oddball characters. The DOS release arrived in 1993 as a mouse-driven graphic adventure, with later CD-ROM and other editions following, while this early floppy version still carries the protection scheme common to the era. Back then the game was noticed for the right reasons, and it still earns its keep through compact puzzles and writing that knows exactly when to be silly and when to be sharp. The mix of fantasy and dry humor gives it a very distinct face, even among its better-known adventure cousins. Old adventures live or die on tone, and Simon has that tone down to a grin. It is the sort of title that remembers to be playful without forgetting to be clever.
