Metersteiner Beer Manager is one of those DOS management games that focus on straightforward brewery planning and the practical limits of early shareware releases. We take control of a brewery, keep an eye on the business side, and at the same time work around the registration and restriction screens that were part of the original distribution. Our release is meant for players who own the original game or the original files and want to make it usable again on modern setups.
Our universal loader removes the original five-year limit together with the recurring registration and advertising screens. If we want, we can also unlock the time restriction entirely and keep running the brewery beyond the extended period. The release additionally includes an integrated savegame editor that lets us change the current money balance in compatible BMSG*.BMD saves. The loader automatically detects the supported original versions and works with both the classic DATA folder layout and the flat directory release.
Using it is simple: copy LOAD.COM into the game directory and run it. The original BMANAGER.BAT is no longer needed, because the loader handles the startup of BMANAGER.EXE itself and restores the temporarily patched bytes after a normal exit.
