About the game

Anstoss, also known internationally as On the Ball, is one of those early management games that treats football as a matter of planning, staff, and long-term decisions rather than action on the pitch. The DOS versions are an important part of the series for many players, combining the classic appeal of the game with a clean, direct interface. Our release is aimed at anyone who wants to get an original copy running again without unnecessary friction.

For that purpose, we provide a small universal loader that bypasses the protection check of the supported original version and then starts the game normally. Four floppy versions are supported: Anstoss German v1.2, v1.40, and v1.41, plus On the Ball English v1.0. The loader detects the matching executable automatically, and if you have a personal DOSGAME.KEY, you can also hide our support screen. Please use this release with your own original copy and original game files; other editions or modified executables are not supported.

Anstoss looks at football through spreadsheets, staff decisions, and patience rather than fireworks on the pitch. That is exactly where the game finds its edge: success comes less from quick reactions than from managing the club with a cool head. Ascon’s DOS version keeps the interface clean and direct, which suits a management game far better than a lot of glossy posturing ever could. It is easy to see why this one mattered so much in the German PC scene: it made football management feel serious without turning it into homework.

This DOSGAME.AT release targets the awkward part neatly, because the original protection check is bypassed before the game launches, while the game itself stays untouched. For owners of the original release, that means a much smoother way back into a legitimate copy they already own. The automatic executable detection is a nice fit for a title that already expects you to think ahead instead of fiddling around. In short: less friction at startup, more time for the actual season, which is exactly how a revival release should behave.
